#09 Birth of Four Directions 1990

CONCEPTION:

By the time this painting emerged I was into yoga and aware of the chakras, energy centers in the body. I knew that the second chakra, in the genital/ birth area, was associated with creativity flow. I felt the close connection with sexuality and creativity and wondered, “What would a painting of orgasmic sensation look like?”. I put my paint brush with colors in the very center of the paper and felt a rippling, flowing movement/ sensation spreading outward into and at the same time emanating from the genital area of four woman, each in an outer corner… and thus the discoveries continued, hours going by in what felt like minutes.
