How did aviva develop painting from the source®?

Dear Painting Friends Worldwide,

You know the saying,” Necessity is the Mother of Invention”, the only way new things are invented is when there is a need. Have you noticed this in your life?  Do you have a deep need that will lead to a “breakthrough” discovery?  Many people ask me how I discovered and developed PFTS . Here is the brief “breakthrough”  story.

After the trauma of my divorce with three young boys, I was always seeking to return to the bliss and magic of painting as a young child. Formal Art Training and life separated me from the free natural unselfconscious expression of childhood. I attended and experimented with many therapeutic and spiritual experiences, such as Art Therapy Masters Degree, Yoga, Gestalt Therapy, became a Psychoanalyst, Dream Interpretation,  Jungian Analysis, Art Expression workshops, Primal Scream, Holotropic Breath Work, Group Therapy and so much more. But I could not find the teacher or creative reparation experience I was so fervently seeking.

In 1981 I had a breakthrough in a “process painting” retreat lead by skilled teachers. I saw in a flash how I could use this method of “process painting” with children’s paint and paper in combination with all my art, spiritual, therapeutic studies and life experiences to create the repairative painting experience that I myself longed to attend.  I could paint with you, my spirit family.  I understood from my own experience that under the right conditions one could fall into a safe “altered state of consciousness” with no hallucinogens just from experience of painting. … and thus tap into a spiritual wise Source of images, themes and colors like in a dream, but awake. I was on fire.

Little did I know that all the experiences of my life prepared me for this experience which I could share with the world. The rest is history. My book which goes into much more detail on how I developed PFTS and how you can do the process home alone, was published by Harper Collins all over the world in 1998.
