#10 Grandmother Earth Wisdom 1994

CONCEPTION:

I was visiting friends who lived in a rural wooded area in Western Massachusetts which was settled in colonial times, winding dirt roads lined with low stone walls. It was early spring and snow still melting. The smell of wet earth was n the air. I saw an old Oak with a stream of water flowing out from between its large tangled roots. I could feel powerful energy, a sense of this being a sacred magical spot. I knew I had to paint the sense of magic found in this place.

When painting I was not surprised to see the in-dwelling guardian of this watery cove, the life-generating grandmother, who also resembled my own grandmother.
